How a Consultant Saved My Business

For many years, I didn't think consultants were very useful. However, my opinion changed when my business hit a rocky patch. Sales were falling away and I was missing some key members of staff. My friend recommended that I call in a team of consultants to carry out some work. A recruitment consultant helped me to fill the vacant positions in my company while a sales specialist helped me to assess why my sales volumes were falling. After a few months, things began to improve. I learnt a lot during this time and I retain some consultants on a retainer in case I need their services again.

How To Always Clear Customs Fast and Efficiently

Fast and efficient customs clearance requires multiple things to happen seamlessly. Company managers play a big role in making this happen. This article discusses some of the measures that can smoothen and expedite the customs clearance process.

Written Procedures

The biggest thing that you can do is to document all the procedures that you would like your staff to follow so that they comply with all the customs requirements. This document will prevent the delays, fines and penalties that can result when a seemingly minor detail is forgotten and your consignment is delayed or held by the authorities. Train the relevant employees so that they can follow that written system easily.

Be Accessible

Moving consignments across borders may often involve working in different time zones. Quick customs clearance may depend on how fast you respond when your customs broker contacts you at any time of the day or night. It is therefore helpful for you to identify someone in your company who can be accessed at any time of the day or night when any matter arises during the clearance process. Prompt responses will ensure that the clearance process moves smoothly.

Cross-Train Employees

Never be content when you have only one person who is your go-to employee on matters of customs clearance. What would happen to your company in case an individual was suddenly taken ill or left abruptly? Always cross-train your employees so that another can be quickly identified to handle customs clearance matters when the designated employee is unable to perform those tasks. Cross-training will avert any disruptions that can affect the system as a new person is getting acquainted with how the system works.

Upgrade IT Systems

Gone are the days when customs clearance was done by filling and submitting forms manually. Most jurisdictions have embraced technology and moved the process online. Companies with an inappropriate digital system may have issues with their customs clearance process due to the delays that can occur when the system used by their customs broker isn't compatible with the company's system. Resources should, therefore, be directed towards making timely upgrades to the customs clearance system of the company so that the clearance process proceeds seamlessly.

Partner with an experienced customs clearance service provider. Such a professional will be invaluable in helping you to set up procedures and systems that will ease the task of clearing your consignments quickly and efficiently. This ensures that your profits aren't affected by the added costs of an inefficient customs clearance system.
